If you’re like most Cape Cod homeowners, you can’t wait to open up your house for the season! Opening up your home after a long winter can be very rewarding but it’s important to take some steps to make sure everything is ready for your first guests. In this post, we’ll give you some tips on how to get your cape cod house ready for the season.
Cleaning and organization
If your Cape Cod home will be unoccupied during the off-season, you might consider having a deep clean performed before you return. A deep clean involves a more thorough cleaning of all spaces, particularly the kitchen, where we clean the interior of the cabinets, the oven, the microwave, and the refrigerator. Organization may involve arranging patio furniture that you have brought inside the home or storage sheds. The object of this cleaning and organization is that you would step into a home that feels and smells just as you remember it from last season.
Inspecting the property for any damages
Here is where our home watch services can help you. Rob and his staff come by your home twice per month (or more often) looking for obvious issues that can be addressed before they become larger and more expensive problems. For example, doors on outdoor showers frequently require fixing or replacement after the winter storms. We can ensure that these repairs have been made before you return so that you can use the house to its fullest capacity on the day you arrive.
Exterior painting and repairs
Liberty Siqueira enjoys participation in a preferred-provider network that can provide any touch-ups or repairs. Wooden fencing and doors are most likely to require repair before you come back. Rather than painting and repairing after you come back, why not have repairs performed before you return?
Updating your landscaping
Here again, our home watch service can help you plan for changes to your landscaping before the beginning of the season. For example, you might conisider asking your landscaper to plant new flowers and check your existing flower beds to ensure that the gardens and walkways will be ready for Memorial Day. The final frost of the season will probably occur in March or early April. After that time, your landscaper might be able to plant hydrangeas or other Cape Cod favorites.
Installing new window treatments or furniture
If your window treatments and porch furniture took a beating during the many nor’easters that pass through every year, you might consider purchasing new flower boxes, quarterboards, and the like. As your home watch provider, Liberty Siqueira is willing and able to coordinate purchases and installations. We can be present at your home when contractors appear and supervise their work if necessary.
Preparing your indoor spaces for guests
If you plan to have family and friends, or if you plan to rent your Cape Cod home this season, there are a few things you might want to consider. For example, you want to make sure that you have an adequate supply of sheets for each bed. We recommend a total of three changes for each bed. The same goes for towels. Finally, don’t forget beach towels; if your supply is starting to get old, you might want to consider replacing them before the beginning of the season.
